Rapunzel? [The telepathic message gently eases into Rapunzel's mind, as if Korra's being careful not to startle her.]

Do you have a moment?

[ it's still new hearing people in her mind, but she's practiced off and on with her new roommate, so...the return is sunshine-bright if a little cluttered, flashes of different nervous emotions trickling through overpowered with excitement above all else. ]

Korra! Sure, I mean, yes, I can make time? What is it? All I'm doing is helping Chihiro-chan with the Halloween bag things but, well, we've made lots of progress...

[Now that the connection's been made, Korra lets some of her own flashes of excitement roll back toward Rapunzel.]

Sounds like a lot of fun. I just need a picture of those designs you said were on the lanterns. Uh try picturing it in your mind, I guess? I think that should work.

[ she's been drawing the sun of corona for years. it's a simple enough matter to picture it, painted and sketched and chalked everywhere. ]

It's pretty, isn't it?

It is. [She takes a moment to admire and memorize the image.]

Got it, thanks! One more thing--can you stop by my room later tonight? If you have time, I mean.

Sure! What time should I come by? I don't...actually have any plans still. I was told it might be dangerous to leave the base alone? I think maybe I should ask for, um, fighting lessons? I've only ever really done yoga. Alone. And you can't fight with that? I...think. Maybe you can?

Uhh, maybe in a few hours? I might need that long to-- [She abruptly cuts herself off, just a hint of nervousness bleeding through her sudden silence.] So. Yeah. A few hours.

[There's a sense of relief as they shift the conversation onto another topic.]

I can probably teach you a few things about fighting, if you want? I'm already teaching someone else, so I don't mind.

[ wow that sure wasn't suspicious at all!! there's a brush of curiosity but rapunzel doesn't pry. ]

I'll come by in a few hours! With snacks? Are snacks okay? And if you're sure you have the time, that'd be great! Iiiiii only have ever fought with my frying pan?

[There's nothing to see here!! Nothing to see.................]

Sounds perfect, actually. And, yeah, I'm sure! [There's a brief flutter of amusement at her weapon of choice.] I've never seen anyone use a frying pan to fight before, but it works!

I'll show you when we start! Which we can do...whenever. Anyway, I'll see you in a few hours?

[ at which point in time she will show up with her hair braided (thanks robots) and some fresh finger sandwiches and cookies and juice. rapunzel those are not "snacks" that's a full on picnic meal. ]

[Korra lets her into the room, looking much more at ease.]

Right on time! I just finished a little while ago. [She beams, then falters as she catches sight of all the food Rapunzel's brought with her.] Wow, you didn't hold back at all.

Were you training again?

[ she has no idea what korra's other hobbies are so far...but rapunzel flushes a little. ]

Haha...ha. I kind of got carried away? Maybe?

Nah, not this time. I was working on something else.

[She steps aside to let Rapunzel in.]

I can show it to you, actually. It's for you.

For me? [ there's the blank, startled surprise she'd treated hotaru with, when the girl had suggested other people should have been cooking for rapunzel on her birthday. honestly, mother gothel never really did Nice Surprises without being reminded or nagged... ]

Is it for the whole training me thing? [ rapunzel...get off the training topic. ]

[The question makes Korra grin.] Not this time. It's, well...

[Korra picks something up from the floor and holds it behind her back.]

It's probably not as fancy as the ones you're used to, but... it should work. [As she talks, she brings her hands forward to show Rapunzel the lantern she's holding. It's roughly the same shape as the ones Rapunzel described to her, with the sun design that she'd asked for earlier.]

[ she's only ever seen them from a distance, or flynn's descriptions of "lanterns", from drawings. this is the closest she's ever been to an actual lantern, and rapunzel's eyes widen. ]

You...made a lantern? [ she made a lantern. it's not the thousands of lanterns released every year, but it's - she could reach out and touch it? oh my god. ]

Why did you think I kept asking you all those questions?

[Korra smiles, offering the lantern to Rapunzel. She's hoping that her friend's reaction is a good thing.]

[coronae]

[ honestly she'd mistaken it for curiosity, because rapunzel can't help asking questions about everything, but. while she takes the lantern, she immediately takes another step forward to throw her arms around korra in an impromtu hug. ]

Thank you thank you thank you! But, can we - can we go outside? To let it go??

[ can they light it and watch it float??? ]

[Surprise keeps her frozen for a second before she returns the hug with a soft laugh.] I told you I'd make sure you had something to tide you over.

Actually... [She pulls away from the hug just enough to wave a hand at all the snacks Rapunzel's brought.] Let's just take all this up to the island, too. Might as well enjoy the fresh air for a while if we're going to be up there anyway.

Like a picnic?

[ oooh. a night picnic. with a lantern. ]

That'd be great! If you want? I mean, you offered, so you...probably want? We can take those, er, stairs to the island?

Hey, Rapunzel. Have you ever heard of gingerbread?

Oh, it's a type of cookie! Though you can use it to make not cookie things? I've had it before, and I could make some - well, I'd need some more things, but - why do you ask?

Apparently it's part of this holiday other people celebrate in their worlds.

We're going to be decorating the base and everything again.

[coronae]

In that case, I can definitely make you some! Do you want to taste test? I mean, I think it should be okay, but - I can let you know as soon as it's done?

[ On the morning of December 25th, Rapunzel will wake up to a small, brightly wrapped package next to where she sleeps. Inside it will be a drawing of her and URSULA in her robot form, with URSULA brushing Rapunzel's hair. The picture is also framed. Besides that, there are also cookies that she managed to bake herself! As she cannot taste test, they might not be perfect, but they are cutely decorated with “Happy Holidays, Rapunzel!” and other holiday themed items, like snowmen and reindeer.

A note attached simply says, “From URSULA!” ]
